Elk-Enders Camping Club

May Camp Out Change

By Larry Hoffman

  Elk-Enders:

The May Campout, originally scheduled for Chula Vista has been cancelled and the new May event will take place at Oceanside. No...no... it's not at the Elks Lodge but at the Oceanside RV Park at 1510 South Coast Highway.
Perhaps your asking why? The Chula Vista RV Resort didn't honor the committment to Alex Gonzalez and the Elk-Enders that they made to when we went back there a couple of years ago. That committment was that we would always have the Rec Room. Again they offerred the frame and tarp on a concrete parking slab.
Alex and I went to Oceanside today to check it out at the direction of the President, Randy Eldridge and the General Wagonmaster, Mark Mahoney. They cleared the particulars and were very much in favor of the change. It remains on the same weekend, May 21-23. We have contracted for 20 spaces, but can probably get more however we must notify them by April 8th. at the latest.
The RV Park is very nice, has a great rec room with cooking facilities, Wi-Fi, cable TV, full hook-ups, pool and spa, and a game room with a pool table. The resort is just a few blocks from the ocean for that nice coooool summer weather.
The rate for clubs is $41 per nite + $2.00 for dogs. I know this sounds high, but the gas saving compared to Chula Vista, about 45 miles more each way, will more than offset the few extra dollars. The Park has stated that those who come early on Thursday will get the same rate.
In the vicinity are great on the waterfront restaurants, such as "Joe's Crab Shack," the "Jolly Roger," and "Monterey Cannery." There is also an Oceanside Harbor Cruise for those who may wish to set sail.

My personal opinion is that we should also make this our September destination beginning this year. The CHEA rally will be in October so there will not be a conflict. Hemet is very hot in September and the Oceanside RV Park allows clubs only September through May.

Lance and Sherrie Larson are the wagon masters for this event. See them at the April 7th meeting or call them in advance if you wish to attend the campout but can't make the meeting.

EXTRA NOTICE:
Those of us attending the Lancaster campout should bring their check for the Saturday breakfast to the meeting and giove it to Joe or JoAnn Zapata.
